Constipation in Infants
Most constipation is self-limited. It is not so much about the frequency of stools as it is the consistency. Stools that are either large and hard or tiny pellets are a sign of constipation. Babies that are on formula or learning to eat solids are at an increased risk for constipation, but it can be seen with exclusively breastfed babies as well. You can help your baby pass stool by bicycling their legs or giving them a warm bath to relax. If your baby is struggling with constipation, you can ask your healthcare provider for recommendations on ways to help soften their stools.
